Supporting you through the journey of life

Psychologist for Expats – Welcome to Expat Mind Psychology
Living abroad can be exciting, but also challenging. Sometimes, what should be an enriching time turns into a cycle of dissatisfaction, anxiety or disconnection. If you feel that things are not working out as you had hoped, you are not alone.
At Expat Mind Psychology, I offer a safe space as a psychologist for expatriates to address those difficulties that affect how you feel and how you manage your day to day life, whether it is due to your expatriate life, traumatic experiences or complex personal situations.
How can I help you?
I offer accompaniment in different areas of mental health, with special emphasis on the problems that arise when living in multicultural contexts or outside the country of origin:
Depression / Mood difficulties
Persistent feelings of sadness, lack of motivation, loss of interest or emotional emptiness
Anxiety / stress
Constant worries, physical or mental tension, insomnia and feeling overwhelmed.
Trauma / postraumatic stress
Difficult events from the past that continue to affect your present with intrusive memories or intense reactions
Couple difficulties
Communication problems, recurrent conflicts or relational crises, especially in inter-cultural contexts.
Expat difficulties
Culture shock, sense of isolation, loss of identity or difficulty in adapting to a new environment
Other difficulties

Therapies offered
I work with evidence-based psychological approaches, tailored to your personal needs and rate of change:
Meet me
I am Dr. Jose Lopez, a clinical psychologist with more than 12 years of experience in the treatment of adults, accredited in CBT and EMDR. I work with people who, like you, are looking to move forward, feel better and regain a sense of direction in their lives.
My approach combines scientific evidence with a practical approach, using tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), desensitization and processing (EMDR) and Behavioral Couples Therapy. I work both in English and Spanish, in person in Barcelona and also online.
“Each therapeutic process is unique, but the common goal is to help you gain awareness, reduce emotional discomfort and move forward with greater clarity.”
Take the first step
Sometimes the hardest part is getting started. If you don’t know if therapy is for you or you have doubts about how it would work, I propose something simple and without commitment:
